My name is Maria Moncibaez and I was born and raised in Cottonwood Arizona. My parents Art and Jovita Moncibaez were also raised in the Verde Valley. My dad was born in Jerome and my mom was born in Clarkdale, they have both seen tremendous changes to the Verde Valley. I have one sister (Lynda) and 3 brothers (Art, Steve and Dave) we all live in the Verde Valley expect my brother Art. I believe I have a unique family because 4 out of the 5 of us siblings are teachers and at one time we all taught in the Verde Valley. Our dad was an inspiration to us all, since he was also a teacher and an assistant principal.
I have been teaching at the same school district (Cottonwood Oak Creek) for 16 years. Most of my teaching has been in first grade. I did teach a 2nd/3rd grade ELL combination class one year and an ELL 3rd grade another year, the rest of my experience has been in first grade. I am presently teaching at Mountain View Preparatory at Tavasci, which is an I. B school. I am going on my third year there.
I received my Bachelors and Masters degree at Northern Arizona University and I continue to take educational courses to continue to learn. Prior to teaching I was a banker for 15 years with Valley National Bank now known as Chase Bank. I have been a single mom for 19 years and I have two beautiful daughters Olivia and Marissa. My daughter Olivia is an incoming Senior at the University of Arizona and my daughter Marissa has 2 more months to complete Cosmetology School in Tempe. I am so very proud of them both!
I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to go camping, swimming, walking, hiking, scrapbooking, having BBQ’s, going to the movies, shopping, doing zumba, talking and relaxing whenever we can.
